What is a breaker, GFCI and smoke/CO check?

A tripped breaker or GFCI outlet can quietly shut off a refrigerator, freezer or other key appliance in an empty home. A smoke or CO detector chirping for a battery can go on for days with no one there. This add-on adds a visual look at those items to your regular home watch visit, so you hear about them sooner.

On each visit we look at the breaker panel for tripped breakers and check GFCI outlets. We also visually check that smoke and CO detectors are in place and not chirping for a battery. Anything that looks wrong goes into your timestamped photo report with a photo and a note, and we call you if it needs attention.

This add-on is billed monthly with your home watch plan. It is a visual check and a report only. It is not an electrical inspection or a safety certification, and electrical repairs and detector replacement are not included. Tell us at your free walkthrough what matters most in your home.

What does the breaker, GFCI and smoke/CO check include?

On each home watch visit we look at the breaker panel for tripped breakers, check GFCI outlets, and visually check that smoke and CO detectors are in place and not chirping for a battery. Your photo report includes a photo and a note. It is a visual check and does not include repairs or detector replacement.

How much does the Breaker Panel, GFCI & Smoke/CO Check cost?

It costs $15 per month. It is a flat monthly add-on to a True North Home Watch plan and is billed along with the plan, so there is no separate account. Home watch plans start at $110 a month. Electrical repairs and detector replacement are not included and are billed by the vendor you approve.

Is this an electrical or safety inspection?

No. It is a visual check and a report, not an electrical inspection or a safety certification, and True North does not make electrical repairs. We look for tripped breakers and GFCI outlets and for detectors that are missing or chirping, and tell you what we saw so you can decide what to do.

What happens if you find a tripped breaker?

We call you right away with photos and a clear description, because a tripped breaker can shut off key appliances such as a refrigerator. With your approval we can coordinate an electrician or other vendor and meet them at your home. Any vendor bills you directly for their work, and you approve each step first.
