Why It Matters

Why do seasonal homeowners need a hurricane plan?

Hurricane protection is a storm-timed service that prepares an unoccupied home before a named storm and inspects it right after. It fills the gap between your regular home watch visits.

Hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, peaking around September 10 (National Hurricane Center). That's exactly when many owners are away. When a storm is named, flights fill up and roads get busy. True North is already here.

Loose items become hazards

Lanai furniture and loose outdoor items can be thrown by high winds. We secure or bring in what's reasonable before the storm.

Proof of condition

Before-and-after photos show how your home looked before the storm and what changed after it.

Water damage moves fast

The EPA advises drying water-damaged areas within 24–48 hours to prevent mold (EPA mold guide). Priority inspection means leaks are found sooner.

You may not be able to get there

Travel before and after a storm is hard. We're local and your home is already on our priority list.

Help with the recovery

We coordinate service providers and help with your insurance claim, so you're not managing it from out of state.

Peace of mind

Watch the forecast knowing True North Home Watch has your home covered, before and after.

Answers

Hurricane protection questions, answered

What Naples, Marco Island and Bonita Springs homeowners ask most about storm season. More on our FAQ page.

What does the Hurricane Protection Package include?

Before a storm, True North Home Watch gives your home a priority inspection, secures or brings in reasonable outdoor furniture and loose items, checks doors, windows and accessible areas, and photo-documents the home. After the storm, we give your home a priority inspection for visible damage and water intrusion, check the A/C and humidity, report to you promptly, and help coordinate service providers and your insurance claim if needed.

How much does hurricane protection cost?

It's one flat fee per storm: $450 for homes up to 2,500 sq. ft. and $600 for homes from 2,501 to 5,000 sq. ft. The fee covers both the pre-storm and post-storm visits. For homes over 5,000 sq. ft., call (239) 301-8657 for a quote.

When is hurricane season in Southwest Florida?

The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, according to the National Hurricane Center. The peak is around September 10, with most activity from mid-August to mid-October. That's when many seasonal owners are away, which is why we recommend reserving the package before the season peaks.

Do you install or remove hurricane shutters?

No. Shutter installation and removal are not included in the package. Also not included: moving heavy items or specialty equipment, actual repair work, and third-party costs. We can help coordinate a provider for those jobs.

Can you coordinate my hurricane shutters?

Yes. True North can coordinate your shutter company before a storm so the job gets scheduled. The shutter company does the installation and removal; that work and its cost are not part of our package. We can also let adjusters and contractors in after the storm and check your generator, boat and dock on request.

Will you help with my insurance claim?

Yes, if you need it. Our before-and-after photos document your home's condition, and insurance claim assistance is part of the package. Your insurer makes all coverage decisions, but a clear photo record makes the process easier.

What happens after the storm passes?

Package clients are inspected first. When it's safe, we check your home for visible damage and look for water intrusion and leaks in accessible areas. You get a prompt report with photos, and we can coordinate service providers with your approval.

Why does fast post-storm inspection matter?

Water damage gets worse with time. The EPA advises drying water-damaged areas and items within 24 to 48 hours to prevent mold growth. If you're out of state, a priority inspection means a leak can be found and handled sooner.
